Family Chocolate Chip Cookies

I've been making this recipe for chocolate chip cookies from my family cookbook since I was old enough to bake.  My favorite part is the yummy dough, but the cookies are pretty good too.  :)

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • dash of salt
  • 1 c. chocolate chips (I use semi-sweet, and more than 1 cup.  I mean, should there really be a limit to how many chocolate chips you need?  Just dump some in till it looks right to you!)
  • Cream shortening, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla
  • Add eggs, beat until mixed well
  • Mix flour, baking soda, and salt
  • Add flour mixture a little at a time until mixed well
  • Stir in chocolate chips
  • Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes
This recipe makes about 2 1/2 - 3 dozen cookies, depending on how much dough you may or may not have eaten.  ;)
